User stories

I was a trainee nurse at the beginning of my career when my life changed in a matter of seconds. A careless driver went through a crossing at full speed and hit me. As well as many other injuries, my neck and spine were broken in 8 places and I ended up in a wheelchair.

My friends Lehla, Jill, Michelle and Renee also help me access inaccessible places. That’s what good friends are for! My passion was, and still is, nursing and medicine. I hope I can one day be a nurse again!

Last summer, I received my Batec handbike. The independence it has given me has been life-changing. I was able to make my first trip with my best friends. We love Halloween, so we cut out pumpkins and went for a stroll along the Wetlands' seafront to take some creepy photos with pumpkin heads.

Since becoming a mother, it plays an equally important role. When my son was smaller, he used to sit on my lap and there was no stopping us. We could go to the park or go shopping, or simply go for a ride, freely and effortlessly.

Without my Batec, we would be shut inside. When he was too small to walk long distances, there was no other way to carry him around. It gave us wings, and the chance to be active and never get bored. Now that he is older and rides his own bike, the sky is our limit. We use the handbike all the time to go everywhere, discover new places and live life to the fullest.

I have a passion for photography, the mountains and sports. Together with my Batec, I enjoy these things as much as possible.

My Batec has changed my life! I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis almost 15 years ago and have had reduced mobility for 10 years. My family is amazing and now I feel like I can share time with them again and also enjoy time for myself and be independent again.
